Re-considering Post-Modernism in East Midtown

With Matt Postal

With designation of the AT&T Building as an official landmark, the time has come to look more closely at Manhattan’s post-modern architecture and judge its achievements. Major works by the architectural firms Helmut Jahn, Johnson/Burgee, KPF and IM Pei will be viewed and evaluated, highlighting what made post-modernism innovative during the Reagan years, and how these often theatrical buildings and their “pops” (privately-owned public spaces) have been treated by owners and critics.
