Join MAS for the 4th Annual Jane’s Walk NYC
Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th, 2014
January 23rd, 2014, 11:00 am
Celebrated during the first weekend in May in nearly 100 cities worldwide, Jane’s Walk honors the enduring legacy of urban activist Jane Jacobs by encouraging residents to get out on the street, engage with their neighbors and explore the city.
Last year, MAS coordinated 100+ walks throughout the five boroughs of New York City, promoting urban literacy among the thousands who participated. To make this year our most successful and far reaching Jane’s Walk yet, we need your help.
Just as Jane Jacobs urged residents to become advocates for their communities, we are excited for you to participate in the “sidewalk ballet” by leading a walk on a subject about which you’re passionate. Whether you have a special interest in a particular neighborhood or would like to explore a new area of the city, become a walk leader and share your knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow New Yorkers and visitors alike.
- Walk leaders are responsible for planning a route through their chosen neighborhood with walks generally lasting between 90 minutes and 2 hours (30 minutes minimum).
- Walks can be led on Saturday, May 3rd, Sunday, May 4th or both days. We encourage hosts to lead their walk at least twice over the course of the weekend.
- When you register to lead a walk, a member of the Jane’s Walk team at MAS will be in touch to confirm details and provide planning support. Jane’s Walk training sessions will be held in March and April for interested walk leaders and volunteers.
- Please note that the call for walk submissions will close on April 25th at 6:00 PM. Entries are reviewed and scheduled on a rolling basis, so the earlier you submit the better!
