March 11th, 2013, 2:50 pm
The Disruptor Foundation, in conjunction with Rain, and partner The Municipal Art Society of New York, has announced the kick-off of the 2013 Disruptor Cup: an annual, month-long hackathon during which the best and brightest NYC techies, designers, and community members converge to form ideas, build tools that solve problems, and compete to make our city better. This year’s Disruptor Cup theme is emergency preparedness, response, and long-term recovery. The first phase of the Disruptor Cup began March 4th. Participants will have 30 days to work on their projects. Upon completion, participating teams will submit their projects for review. Five teams are then selected to move on to the second phase of the hackathon: demo day. On demo day – scheduled for April 15th – the teams behind the top projects submitted will pitch and demonstrate their creations to a diverse audience of angel investors, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, city officials, and many others. The winning team will be selected by a panel of judges and awarded the 2013 Disruptor Cup.
