Diane von Furstenberg to Receive Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal

Diane von Furstenberg

Join MAS as we celebrate the remarkable dedication and work of Diane von Furstenberg at our annual gala on April 28, at the magnificent beaux-arts New York Public Library.

Ms. von Furstenberg will be awarded the prestigious Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal for her tireless work as an urban pioneer, civic activist and preservationist. As one of the first designers to open a studio in the Meatpacking District, she was integral to the rebirth of the neighborhood and successfully fought to establish it as a historic district.

A longtime resident of the Meatpacking District, Ms. von Furstenberg has been a vocal member of her community. She was an early supporter and key advocate for the rescue and remarkable transformation of the High Line; indeed, her leadership role in this project has put her at the center of one of the most inspiring stories in 21st century urban history.

“Diane von Furstenberg has contributed in so many ways to our great city. Much like Mrs. Onassis, Diane has used her prominence and status to affect long lasting, livability-enhancing changes in our city. I hope you’ll join us as we salute Diane’s contributions to New York City and her work as a civic activist,” said MAS President Vin Cipolla.

We have a fabulous group of gala supporters, joining honorary chairs Caroline Kennedy, Tim Gunn and Landmarks Preservation Commission Chairman Robert B. Tierney, to fete Ms. von Furstenberg.

The annual Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal is the Municipal Art Society’s central fundraising effort. The financial support garnered from the evening helps sustain MAS and advances our work as a voice for the future of our city.
