DUMBO at Dusk

Preservation and Development on the Historic Brooklyn Waterfront

With Matt Postal

This sunset tour with architecture historian Matt Postal visits Brooklyn Bridge Park, DUMBO, and the Fulton Ferry Historic District. Learn about the area’s mercantile past and vibrant present. We’ll explore the waterfront park’s marvelous north section, which features a modest salt marsh, while considering how the Empire Stores and other warehouse buildings have found fashionable new uses as apartments, office, and retail space. Highlights include pioneering examples of reinforced concrete construction by William Higginson, as well as contemporary works by Jean Nouvel, Marvel Architects, and Alloy Architecture.
