I Remember Sunset Park

A Personal Journey in a Changing Neighborhood

With Joe Svehlak

Growing up on a street without many cars and being able to leave the front door unlocked was quite different from today’s world. Relive the post-World War II days on old Brooklyn streets, as Joe reminisces about his old neighbors, street games he played, and the mom-and-pop stores. On Joe’s old street, view a unique variety of working class architecture, including different styles of row houses, various multiple dwellings, a church, a factory and even a former farm house. We start in Brooklyn’s Chinatown, formerly the commercial center of the Norwegian community and end at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the largest religious edifice on Long Island.
