Join our Movement for a More Livable New York
September 4th, 2012, 11:56 am
MAS is growing a movement of urban advocates invested in the future of New York City. Together, we work to identify and advance innovative approaches to improving the livability, sustainability and resilience of New York. September is an important month for MAS. We are preparing for the third annual MAS Summit for New York City and launching a full year of programming, tours, advocacy and research designed to inform and empower the citizens of our great city, enabling each of us to play a more active and effective role in planning for our shared future. September 30th also marks the close of MAS’s fiscal year, and your generous financial support will help us meet key goals, allowing MAS to continue to serve as the voice for the future of New York City. With that in mind, we invite you to join fellow civic-minded New Yorkers and make a contribution to the MAS Livable City Campaign. Your generosity will have a tangible impact, supporting such core MAS priorities as:
- Renewing the legacy of Grand Central Terminal. At this landmark’s centennial, MAS is leading a research and public information campaign to secure a vibrant future for East Midtown and the Terminal. We’re advocating for the preservation of critical buildings, improvements to the transit network and, with MAS’s recently launched design challenge, The Next 100, internationally renowned design firms are exploring how the district’s public spaces might be re-imagined.
- Empowering community leaders. Working with Community Solutions and the Brownsville Partnership, MAS is training residents of Brownsville, Brooklyn to lead a community planning process that will reimagine and renew their under-served neighborhood, home to the highest concentration of public housing in the U.S.
- Serving as a global urban ambassador. MAS has been named lead partner of the World Urban Campaign, a project of UN-HABITAT. Working with urban leaders worldwide, we will develop an international learning network to share best practices for enhancing urban livability and sustainability on a global scale.
