Regional Plan Association and State of Connecticut Support Expanding Metro-North Service to Penn Station

A Regional Plan Association study on Hunts Point and a Connecticut Department of Transportation report on expanding commuter service to New York both call for bringing Metro-North trains to Penn Station. The reports favor the Metro-North development of new stations in Co-Op City, Hunts Point, and Parkchester and the use of the Hell Gate line currently owned and operated by Amtrak. Though bringing additional trains does not depend on the new Moynihan Station, it does emphasize the need to increase capacity at Penn Station and the station’s importance to the region.
