We Are Atlas/ The Heaven Tour

Janes Walk

Playful journey in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with practical gifts

Led By We Are Atlas

While this was created as a scavenger hunt marking the moment we became 8 billion people on Earth in Nov’22, it can also be done as a tour. It is available online under the form of 2 e-zines, meaning that there are 2 routes with the same starting point & that 2 teams can do it simultaneously (street game vibe). Teams meet at the end. (It can also be done 1 route at a time. If you don’t feel like walking both, do 1 route only.)

When they do it as a tour, participants are directed to unique street tags hidden in plain view, done by unknown authors. Along with each finding there is info about the environment & life in general. Gifts (while funds allow) & one quiz follow at the end; all answers are welcome!

Show up rested, wear walking shoes & have your phones charged. This is mostly in non-residential area, so you can do pit stops. Enjoy!

Accessibility

You can read the introduction (first 7 pages of each e-zine) before you go on the actual tour. Keep in mind that the e-zines contain hundreds of pictures, so don't get intimidated by the number of pages (also, generally there is much less text compared to the introduction). If the letters are too small to discern on the phone, consider taking a quick screenshot & then zoom in on the screenshots in those areas with more text where you may have difficulty reading. Each route is around 2,5 miles; the sidewalks are wheelchair accessible due to new ramps just being built by the City starting 2023! The start and end points are close to public transportation, to CitiBike stations & street parking is available. Dress for the weather (umbrellas, walking shoes, charged phones, sun hats, etc). Bathrooms are present on the route in bars, coffee shops, etc. This is an eco-themed tour, so if you have them, please bring travel mugs for coffee & refillable water bottles. After finishing the walk, first 100 participants are invited to pick up one eco-gift per person (regardless if they did 1 or 2 routes) -> one sturdy foldable tote bag/ the cure to single-use plastic bags -> 100 available. Nearby gift pick-up location / ways to collect & time interval will be updated on the web page of the tour closer to the festival. Save up to one hour (or more if you wish) for that & to decompress before you head to the next walk.
