Boaters, Batters, and Boxers: A Sporting Visit to Green-Wood Cemetery

Janes Walk

Led By John Semlak

Walk through the beauty of Green-Wood Cemetery past the graves of some of the most important figures of early American sports. We see graves of three men each called the “father of baseball.” We see two with baseballs carved on their gravestone. We will also see the first national champion boxer, a ship designer who started a 132-year winning streak, and players who ended an 89-game streak. Along the way we learn about NYC’s role in the history of American sports.
