A Civil Rights Tour of the Upper West Side

Janes Walk

Led By Leigh Hallingby, Licensed NYC Tour Guide, Harlem Walks

There are an impressive # of civil rights memorials on the Upper West Side, starting with a large one to the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in front of the school named after him on Amsterdam Avenue at 66th Street. We will begin with a “deep dive” into the content and artistry of that complicated work of art. Other stops will relate to Freedom Summer, Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Booker T. Washington, and even Dorothy Parker. There will be plenty of time for comments and questions afterwards.
