Janes Walk

Led By Brenda Berkman AND Namita Luthra, Vice-President for Programs, Monumental Women

Join Monumental Women at the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument on Central Park’s Literary Walk (south end of the Mall) to learn about the 7-year effort to donate the first statue to honor real women in the 167-year history of Central Park. Unveiled in 2020, we will introduce you to the history of the WRP Monument, the meaning of all the elements of the Monument, the “Talking Statues” app that allows you to hear 6 famous actresses voicing Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in English and Spanish, 1-minute videos about the lives of the 3 women and the artist statement by the sculptor Meredith Bergmann. But there is more! Learn how to use Monumental Women’s 5-borough Women’s Rights History Trail on your smart device so you can find women’s history sites all over NYC.
