Brooklyn Before the Dodgers: Brooklyn and the Birth of Baseball

Janes Walk

Led By John W. Semlak

This is an exploration of how organized baseball began on the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan. In the mid-19th century Brooklyn clubs like the Atlantics, the Excelsiors, and the Eckfords dominated early baseball and made the game the country’s most popular sport. This tour takes us to the clubhouses, the ballfields, and even the homes of baseball’s early heroes. We finish at the place where the Brooklyn Dodgers played their first games.
