The migration of birds from their southern wintering grounds to their northern breeding grounds is one of the most exciting spectacles of spring. Migration will be in full swing in early May as we explore the micro-hotspots of Central Park’s North Woods. We will be looking (and listening) for warblers, tanagers, orioles, and other colorful and vocal songbirds. This walk is open to anyone with an interest in learning more about the birds that pass through our city on their epic journey north. No prior experience or knowledge required! Attendees should wear comfortable shoes as we will be traversing some rocky terrain. Feel free to bring water/snacks and binoculars (if you have them). Unfortunately, binoculars will not be provided.
Accessibility
We will walk slowly, covering about 1.5 miles with frequent stops to look at birds. There are paved paths in the woods, but at times we may venture off the paved paths on to dirt paths. We may walk on rocks at times, these can be slippery. The walk is not accessible to wheelchairs. There is nearby public transit -- several buses and the B/C that stop at 110th Street and Central Park West. There is also a CitiBike dock one block away from the meeting spot. Car parking is likely difficult.
Location Information
RSVP is required and capacity is limited. Meeting location, ending location, and directions will be provided via email before walk date.
