Come ready to walk through Bushwick, thoughtfully absorb community stories, and potentially get your hands dirty with this walk focusing on a rich culture of support and connection across some of Bushwick’s community garden spaces. Honoring the powerful history and mutual aid legacy of community gardens being forged by neighbors as ways to reclaim land and space, we will visit gardens in Bushwick and the collectives of caretakers who steward and maintain them. The walk will begin at and be led by the El Puente Bushwick Center, and will continue by visiting nearby community gardens, and will end at Grove St. Community Garden, which was passed on to El Puente in recent years. We will listen to stories of how they started, are currently structured and maintained, and used for joyful, vibrant cultural programming.
Accessibility
We will be walking through Bushwick and might encounter some lifted, cracked sidewalk, but will generally be accessible! The Bushwick Center however, has steps going up to the building. There will be places to sit and rest at the gardens.
Location Information
RSVP is required and capacity is limited. Meeting location, ending location, and directions will be provided via email before walk date.
