[In-person tour] The East River is as central to NYC as the Grand Canal is to Venice. As a tidal strait, however, the East River is a much more physically dynamic body of water. Today the river is a giant zipper that connects Manhattan and the Bronx with Brooklyn and Queens on the eastern shore.
Over the City’s history the East River was our original “Blue Highway”
to New England, the heart of the Industrial Revolution, and now the leading edge of the gentrification of waterfront neighborhoods. Join Carter Craft for this walking tour to explore the natural history, the post-Superstorm Sandy resiliency and flood protection projects, and what the future developments might look like.
