This tour will explore Edible Schoolyard NYC’s oldest and largest school garden at PS 216 in Gravesend, Brooklyn. The half-acre garden, which was converted from a parking lot in 2010, is now home to a robust pollinator garden, greenhouse, vegetable and herb beds, cut flowers, and a thriving orchard, including fruit trees such as figs, pawpaws, pomegranates, persimmons, and pears. The garden hosts Pre-K through 5th-grade classes, a student garden club, weekly volunteers, community open garden hours, and a farmstand during the growing season.
