Exploring the Unhidden History of TriBeCa: A Walking Tour

Janes Walk

Led By Karen Loder, NYPL-New Amsterdam

Join branch staff from New Amsterdam for an in person walking tour of TriBeCa! Learn more about the history and landmarks of this neighborhood and connect with community.

We’ll take a walk through the historically rich south of TriBeCa. The tour will last approximately one hour and will begin at our neighborhood library.

The name “TriBeCa” may be just a few decades old but the neighborhood itself embodies a rich history of the city as a place of decay, renewal, and preservation. In this walking tour, we’ll explore traces of the neighborhood’s history as a product of the city’s shipping industry and reflect on how a neighborhood that was once a forgotten relic has become one of the most sought-after zip codes in the country. Some stops include the Bogardus Plaza, Duane Park, and Washington Market Park.
