With Matt Postal

Explore multiple historic districts, viewing key structures and streetscapes. Located in an area of Manhattan that predates the grid, our meandering itinerary identifies pioneering cast-iron buildings, as well as numerous masonry warehouses and factories that were built in the last decades of the 19th century to serve international trade and local food purveyors. En route, we’ll consider the impact of early parks and public spaces, as well as how various modern and contextual works have fared.
