Fly Off Course: Disc Golf & the History of Highland Park

Janes Walk

Led By Alex Bender, Co-Founder, NYC Disc Golf Association (NYCDGA)

Come fly off course. Join Alex Bender, co-founder of the NYC Disc Golf Association and designer of NYC’s only disc golf course, for a walk through Highland Park that blends sport, history, and community.

We’ll explore the park’s rich history, from its Depression-era stone bridge to its ecology, to its role in Brooklyn-Queens daily life, while learning how to play disc golf and how it finally came to New York City. You’ll play the actual course; discs provided, no experience needed.

Wear comfortable shoes and be ready to throw. Meet at the Google Maps pin for “Highland Park Disc Golf Course”, near the baseball field at Highland Blvd. and Heath Pl. Open to all ages and abilities. Sloped, trail-like terrain. Transit accessible.

Accessibility

The route covers approximately 1.5 miles through Highland Park, with a mix of paved paths, grassy, and trail-like terrain. Some areas are sloped and uneven, so the walk may be challenging for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are recommended. The park is accessible via the J/Z/A/C/L trains (Broadway Junction station). Street parking is available along Highland Blvd. and in parking lot on Vermont Pl. No CitiBike stations are immediately adjacent to the course, but there is one at Broadway Junction. Bike racks are also hard to come by, but you'll be able to find a spot somewhere!

Location Information

RSVP is required and capacity is limited. Meeting location, ending location, and directions will be provided via email before walk date.
