Janes Walk

SOLD OUT, WAITLIST FULL

Led By Gabriel Vicente

Step into Harlem, the epicenter of music, literature, and politics, where generations of artists, writers, and performers shaped American culture far beyond New York. Beginning at Strivers’ Row, we pass the sites of the Cotton Club, Savoy Ballroom, and historic jazz clubs along Swing Street (W 133rd), move down Lenox Avenue, and end near the Apollo Theater. Along the way, we celebrate Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Malcolm X, James Baldwin and others, while exploring Harlem’s queer expression, ballroom and jazz legacies. Clubs, churches, stoops, dance floors, apartments, and sidewalks reveal Harlem’s enduring artistic, intellectual and literary power. Slow-paced, expect an immersive walk with stories, frequent stops and conversation.
