Open Streets Prospect Heights

Janes Walk

Led By Saskia Haegens AND Andy Sherman

The Open Streets program began as pandemic relief, but has since evolved into a way for communities to transform local streets and create new permanent public spaces. Open Streets has shown us what is possible when we reimagine our streetscape and use it for community rather than cars.

This reimagining of our local environment presents a huge opportunity to make our streets safer for all, to provide new public space, and to reduce our carbon footprint and fight climate change.

On this walk, you will learn about the Vanderbilt and Underhill Open Streets, the volunteer organization behind it, the exciting changes coming to the street design, and the making of Underhill Plaza—the first permanent new public space as a result of our Open Streets program.
