SoHo Art World

After the Chelsea Exodus

With Sylvia Laudien-Meo

In a pattern that is constantly repeating, New York art galleries moved into SoHo when the garment industry vacated the neighborhood, turning it into the creative hub and art gallery mecca (think Leo Castelli, Tony Shafrazi, etc.) that by now has become a fashionable shopping district. But all is not lost! On our walk through the beautiful late 19th century cast iron architecture we will find some of DIA’s spaces, like the Earth Room, galleries like the most influential Drawing Center, Jeffrey Deitch, Staley Wise Gallery, the Judd Foundation and the Center for Italian Modern Art. We will discuss the neighborhood’s history and architecture and visit some of the most interesting exhibitions of the season, as well as some top designed stores.
