Soundscapes of Williamsburg: Music, Memory, and DIY Culture

Janes Walk

Led By Jen Ng

We’ll go on a Williamsburg walking tour — headphones on — and listen to personal stories experienced in temporal spaces that Wikipedia, the Internet, and ChatGPT can’t offer. Exclusive recorded oral histories from bands, local promoters, industry folks, and showgoers will accompany the tour while we walk to the sites of former DIY venues. We’ll end and dine at Kellogg’s Diner, a popular late-night stop for touring bands.

BRING: Charged smartphones with Wi-Fi / Cellular Data access, headphones, comfy shoes.

ABOUT YOUR TOUR GUIDE: Jen’s worked as a promoter, culture writer, editor, and principal designer for projects including an oral history pilot program and place-based, immersive storytelling apps. Her ongoing work explores ways that story, identity, and self-expression can work together to strengthen communities.

This walk is sold out and the waitlist is full.

Accessibility

Nearby subway stations: G, L (Lorimer-Metropolitan); L (Bedford Ave). Buses and Citibike stations are located throughout the neighborhood. The walk will span about eight stops within the North Williamsburg area and about five to 10 minutes of walking between each location — fairly flat grounds. We'll be near local businesses and cafes, so there are options for restrooms, snacks, and beverages.

Location Information

RSVP is required and capacity is limited. Meeting location, ending location, and directions will be provided via email before walk date.
