The Irish in New York: Before and After Five Points

Janes Walk

Led By Mark Herdter

The Irish played a starring roll in NYC history from the British times up until WWII. Some traces can still be found walking around north of City Hall. We will see old Catholic Churches, houses of both the rich and the poor, and places of business and government. We will walk by the area known as ‘The Five Points’, which was home to not just Irish, but many other nationalities. It was a slum, a paradise, a family-neighborhood and some of it is still there.

Accessibility
