Women of MAS: Doris C. Freedman

With Sylvia Laudien-Meo

This month we are celebrating Doris Chanin Freedman, former MAS president, and founder of our city’s Public Art Fund. We’ll discuss her groundbreaking contributions to the realm of public art in New York and take a closer look at some of the outstanding projects she initiated, including more than fifty murals through City Walls Inc., temporary art projects, and works added to the city’s fabric through the Percent for Art legislation she introduced in 1982. Ed Koch dedicated the southeast corner of Central Park to be The Doris Freedman Plaza, which since then has hosted a most impressive run of installations, some of which will be included in our talk as well. She truly understood the importance and power of public art!

All tours are Eastern Time and last 60 to 90 minutes.
