Jane’s Walk NYC Submission Form

Join The Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) for Jane’s Walk 2019 – an annual festival of citizen-led walking tours inspired by urban activist, Jane Jacobs! Share your passion for the city by leading a walk this coming May 3-5!

Please note: submitted walks will not appear on the Jane’s Walk NYC site until the roster of walks is released in April.

  • A catchy title and description goes a long way to attract the attention of tour-takers. (Examples: History and Mystery in Charleston, A Film Industry Grew in Brooklyn, and Hamiltour! A Hamilton Walking Tour)
  • Include the topic and places your will visit along your walk to help paint a picture of what attendees can expect. For example, what is some of the history of the area? Will anyone be joining your walk to share their expertise (e.g. a historian, a community advocate, etc.)? What will attendees learn on your walk? Are there any important details or instructions of note for attendees to consider (e.g. wear comfortable shoes, bring a camera, etc.)?
  • MAS will use this number in case we need to get in touch with you before or during the festival.
Would you like your day-of contact number included in the registration confirmation in case registered attendees are having a difficult time finding you?
To allow travel time between walks, we have staggered time slots over the course of the weekend. We suggest offering a walk at least two times during the festival to give attendees multiple opportunities to attend. If you need other schedule options, please follow up your selection by emailing janeswalknyc@mas.org.
If your walk starts in one borough and ends in another, please only select the starting borough and include any details in the walk description.
  • Please use an address, if possible, so that we can accurately map your start location. Tip: If you are not using an address, be as specific as you can, making note of landmarks and coordinates, e.g. Southwest corner.
  • For example, you will be wearing specific attire, holding a sign, or standing next to a specific landmark to help people spot you.
  • Please use an address, if possible. Consider ending at a bar or café where walk attendees can continue the conversation!
Tip: When planning your walk, keep in mind that 90 minutes is the average duration. Some walks are heavy on walking and others heavy on talking—you don’t need to do both!
Consider accessibility. Everyone experiences space differently, so think broadly and empathetically about how others might feel along your route.
Submit your form by March 20 to be guaranteed your preferred t-shirt size. All submissions received by April 1 will be guaranteed a shirt, but we cannot guarantee size.
