[Virtual tour] This richly illustrated talk examines the history and evolution of clubhouse design, from the Battery to East 34th Street. Architectural historian Matt Postal will discuss social, political, artistic, and athletic organizations and the impressive structures where New York’s elite once gathered. Lost, extant, and former clubhouses (and whenever possible their splendid interiors) will be considered, including the Century Association, Down Town Association, Downtown Athletic Club, Grolier Club, National Arts Club, and Union Club.
