[Virtual tour] The quieter residential neighborhoods that adjoin Central Park have attracted many impressive private clubs. Join architectural historian Matt Postal for a richly-illustrated talk on the history of clubhouses above midtown, highlighting late 19th and early 20th century examples commissioned by descendants of Dutch settlers, elite women, golfers, aeronautic enthusiasts, and Jews who were frequently excluded from other prestigious clubs. Extant and lost clubhouses will be discussed, including memorable works designed by such architects as Delano & Aldrich, Cross & Cross, Henry Kilburn, and McKim Mead & White.
