What Makes Quality Green Space? The Fight to Save Elizabeth Street Garden

Janes Walk

Led By Brandon Pachuca, Volunteer at Elizabeth Street Garden

Elizabeth Street Garden is a cherished community garden located in Little Italy. The Garden is a living work of art, blending nature with sculptural elements to create a unique and evolving composition. This walk will discuss the history of the garden, focusing on how it started, where it is today, and how it will continue to evolve in the future. The Garden is currently in peril of being destroyed by the City of New York to construct multi-use commercial, office, and affordable housing developments. The walk will start at the garden and tour of the 20k sqft garden space. Highlighting the historic value, and how the green space is used by the community. The walk will evaluate green spaces within a 0.5 mile radius of the garden, reviewing what makes quality green space and why Elizabeth Street Garden is an essential part of the community.
