Harlem’s Hidden Heroines: Unsung Women Activists Who Shaped a Movement

Janes Walk

Led By Claudette Brady AND Yvonne Tate, Save Harlem Now!

Harlem’s Hidden Heroines: Unsung Women Activists Who Shaped a Movement pays tribute to the many courageous and often overlooked women of Harlem who played critical roles in shaping civil rights, social justice, education, healthcare, and cultural activism from the abolition of slavery through the 20th century.
These women, though frequently left out of mainstream historical narratives, played pivotal roles in grassroots organizing, mutual aid societies, and early civil rights movements. The talk shed light on how their activism laid the groundwork for later, more widely recognized movements and leaders.
