Greener Corridors in Action: Planting the Grand Concourse

On Thursday, May 15 at 10 AM, join MAS, the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT), and The Bronx Museum of the Arts for “Greener Corridors in Action: Planting the Grand Concourse,” an NYCxDesign event showcasing the design and evolution of one of New York City’s most celebrated boulevards!

The event will kick off at 10 AM with a keynote by DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, followed by remarks by MAS Interim President Keri Butler and The Bronx Museum’s Shirley Solomon. Afterwards, we invite you to learn about the historic boulevard with us through the following activities:

~ Volunteer with the DOT Landscape Maintenance Program staff and partners for an afternoon of installing native plants on the median.

~ Join walking tours along the boulevard and historic district to learn about ongoing efforts to green & maintain medians and the building blocks of greener corridors citywide.

~ Visit The Bronx Museum exhibit, “Working Knowledge: Shared Imaginings, New Futures,” which encourages interaction with artist-designed tools and systems that foster community building, cultural exchange, and creative problem-solving.

The day of programming is an extension of MAS’s own Greener Corridors research initiative, which explores strategies for leveraging New York City’s busiest roads to meet climate resiliency and public realm goals.
