Distinctive glasses aren’t all Buddy Holly and Jane Jacobs shared. Both moved to New York, Holly in 1958, when Jacobs wrote that the “magnetism” of cities “made people want to come into the city and to linger there.” Holly embraced the clubs of Greenwich Village, and Jacobs joined successful protests against the 1961 folksinging ban in Washington Square Park. We’ll end by paying respect outside the apartment where Holly lived his final year.
