Brooklyn Greenway Initiative built and maintains the Naval Cemetery Landscape on the site of the former Naval Hospital Cemetery at the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a place for retreat and remembrance while honoring its rich layers of natural and cultural history. The Naval Cemetery Landscape is a native plant meadow and pollinator habitat, and provides visitors with an escape from urban life.
When visiting the Naval Cemetery Landscape, visitors can pick up a self-guided tour brochure at our entrance to learn more about our native meadow, the history of the NCL, and our site’s features. Follow up with our gardeners on-site to dig deeper into our horticultural practices and to share nature observations. Early May is a great time to spot migratory birds, newly emerging perennial plants, and various pollinators buzzing with activity.
This walk is self guided! Visitors can pick-up a guide at the Naval Cemetery Landscape (63 Williamsburg Street West Brooklyn, NY 11249).
Folks can visit the Naval Cemetery Landscape to experience this walk between May 2 @ 11am – May 4 @ 7pm EDT
Accessibility
The boardwalk that winds through the Naval Cemetery Landscape is wheelchair accessible, and visitors can access the site from the sidewalk via a ramp that leads to our entrance.
