An 1850s Journey Down Broadway From SoHo to City Hall

Janes Walk

Led By Jason Stein AND Jason Stein, Tour Guide

Walt Whitman meets P.T. Barnum. Our walk starts about one block north of SoHo outside the former site of Pfaff’s Cafe, a favorite of Walt Whitman’s and through his eyes we will journey down Broadway and experience the 1850s: Buildings, Theaters, Brothels, Stories, Characters (some of the unsavory type). We’ll end near P.T. Barnum’s American Museum, the Astor House, Genin’s Bridge, and learn how the Swedish Nightingale made someone very happy.
