Beyond Brownstones: Brooklyn Heights Since 1900

With Matt Postal

When Clay Lancaster published “Old Brooklyn Heights” in 1961, almost no consideration was given to the neighborhood’s 20th century architecture. Matt Postal’s virtual tour highlights what is often overlooked, such as the Heights Casino and Crescent Athletic Club, various banks clustered on Montague Street, and Emery Roth’s high-rise addition to the St. George Hotel, which once boasted many stylish Art Deco interiors. Attention will also be paid to notable examples of contextual design, including trailblazing structures approved for the landmark district.
