Join us on Monday, February 13 from 6-7 PM for an engaging conversation about New York Art Deco: Birds, Beasts & Blooms “the definitive book on New York Deco, from the smallest of details to the grandest of buildings” (Rizzoli). Photographer Andrew Garn will share photographs from his book, and then engage in conversation with writer Allison C. Meier. Expect an exciting conversation celebrating New York City architectural history, culture, and more!

Time will be allotted for Q&A at the end of the program. This program is free with RSVP. Donations are encouraged.

About the Book

Published in November 2022, New York Art Deco: Birds, Beasts & Blooms is the newest addition to photographer Andrew Garn’s series of books documenting the architecture, nature, and culture of New York City. With photographs by Andrew Garn, the book has an introduction by writer and researcher Eric P. Nash. Andrew Garn is a Fulbright-winning photographer and author of New York by NeighborhoodEric P. Nash is the author of SoHo New York and was a researcher for the New York Times for twenty-five years, where he wrote more than 100 articles.

About the Speakers

Andrew Garn
Photographer (he/him)

Andrew Garn is a native New Yorker and fine art and editorial photographer whose work has appeared in
scores of magazines, including The New York Times magazine, Elle Decor, French Photo, New York, Der Spiegel, Audubon, El Pais, The WSJ, Interview, and Fortune.

He is a Fulbright scholarship recipient for his work photographing Stalin-era Industrial Architecture. He has photographed numerous books, including Subway Style (Abrams), The New York Pigeon (powerHouse) Houseboats (Rizzoli), Wildflowers of NYC (Cornell University Press), Bethlehem Steel (Princeton Arch. Press), and the forthcoming Brooklyn Arcadia (Rizzoli).

Allison C. Meier
Writer (MODERATOR)

Allison C. Meier is a Brooklyn-based writer on art, architecture, and culture. She is the editor of the Art Deco New York Map (2018), Concrete New York Map (2017), and Great Trees of New York Map (2021) from Blue Crow Media and the author of the forthcoming Grave (2023) from Bloomsbury. Her bylines include Urban Omnibus, CityLab, the New York Times, Curbed, and National Geographic. She is a licensed New York City tour guide.
