Cast-Iron City

With Matt Postal

Join Matt Postal for a closer look at Manhattan’s cast-iron treasures. Introduced by inventor and entrepreneur James Bogardus in the mid-19th century, we’ll see how this trailblazing technology transformed the practice of commercial construction, including memorable corridors found in Tribeca, SoHo, and the Ladies’ Mile Historic District. With components selected from catalogs, as well as unique designs by Richard Morris Hunt and Vaux & Radford, this illustrated arm-chair tour celebrates the art and artistry of cast-iron architecture.
