Dead, Dutch and Still Around 2023

Janes Walk

SOLD OUT

Led By Desiree Rucker AND Aileen Harry, Friends of Amersfort Park

Street naming can be very contentious. However in Midwood and Flatlands which were both established as farming communities in the 1600s, the names of the scions remain. The tour begins at Flatbush Avenue and Avenue I where we will admire historic houses on the National Register. From there we will walk to Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church on Kings Highway and 40th Street, We will spend some time in the graveyard, where historic figures rest. We will discuss the diversity of the neighborhood – while enjoying a suburban oasis right in the middle of urbanity on our way back to 38th Street and Avenue I to Amersfort Park, a small park, named after Amersfoort, a Dutch city in the Netherlands. The park was land once owned by the Hubbard family which the family deeded to the city and their home still stands watch from across the street.
