Ely Jacques Kahn’s New York

With Lucie Levine

Kahn, a native New Yorker, was considered a “father of the New York City skyline,” and he became president of MAS in 1941. One of the most prolific and celebrated architects of the 1920s, his career spanned half a century, and his design philosophy was guided by his goal to achieve, “a new style of architecture – a New York style.” His vision enriched the city, and his work was notable in the realms of skyscraper design, commercial and industrial architecture, public housing reform, and preservation advocacy. He even left an indelible mark on the American literary landscape! His postwar work in regard to synagogues and memorials was directly related to his Jewish heritage.
