Enduring Culture Spotlight: Garment District

Please join the Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS), the Historic Districts Council (HDC), and the New York Fashion Workforce Development Coalition (NYFWDC) on Thursday, December 11th at Wing & Weft Gloves from 5:00pm-7:00pm for an Enduring Culture Spotlight Event. Come explore the last glove manufacturer in the Garment District and hear about the collaboration and ingenuity that can only happen here in the district. This event celebrates the manufacturing heart of the New York City fashion industry while acknowledging the challenges its businesses are facing as the city changes and prices rise.

Speakers include Tessa Maffucci, Assistant Chair of the Fashion Department at Pratt Institute, Katie Sue Nicklos, CEO and owner of Wing & Weft Gloves, and Laura Weber, Owner & Creative Director of LW Pearl. Refreshments will be provided.

This event is part of MAS’ Enduring Culture Initiative, a multi-year effort that aims to expand New York City’s approach to preservation; to protect and celebrate more of the places, cultural activities, and histories that make our neighborhoods and communities unique.

Historic Districts Council (HDC)

The Historic Districts Council (HDC) provides technical and strategic support to groups and individuals looking to help save historic buildings. HDC has been involved in the creation of almost all of the over 100 officially designated historic districts in New York, which encompass almost 30,000 individual buildings. New York Fashion Workforce Development Coalition (NYFWDC)

The New York Fashion Workforce Development Coalition (NYFWDC) is a multi-stakeholder working group bringing together individuals from the fashion industry, community, academia, non-profit sectors and government to find solutions to strengthen and grow New York’s fashion future via social justice, women’s economic advancement and empowerment.
