Fort Greene in Brooklyn

History, Architecture, and the Arts

With Suzanne Spellen & Morgan Munsey

Fort Greene’s history begins with the Dutch in the 1600s, touches on the American Revolution, includes the Abolitionist Movement and the Underground Railroad, and continues through Spike Lee and the Barclays Center. It has elegant mansions, beautiful row house blocks, historic churches, a major park and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, too. This is a small but mighty neighborhood whose people and institutions still shape Brooklyn.
