Governors Island History Tour with Urban Archive

Janes Walk

Led By Governors Island

Stroll across Governors Island while exploring over four centuries of history through stunning historical photographs on Urban Archive. On the Official Governors Island Walking Tour, visitors will learn the story of the Island beginning with its inhabitation and use by the Lenape until the present day, comparing views of the past with present conditions. Other walks are also available to explore different aspects of the Island’s past.

This walk can be enjoyed on your browser. If you choose to take a self-guided walk in person, all ferries going to and from Governors Island, as well as the grounds of the island itself, are accessible to those in wheelchairs. Not all buildings on the island are wheelchair-accessible. Building 110, located next to Soissons Landing, is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located throughout the grounds.
