Grand Street

With Matt Postal

[Virtual tour] Discover one of the Lower East Side’s more architecturally varied thoroughfares. From the Federal period to the mid-20th century, historian Matt Postal will show how the “old neighborhood” has evolved and changed, as illustrated through rare 19th century brick townhouses, the former Ridley & Sons Department Store, the Young Men’s Benevolent Association (now a mikvah), the Abron Arts Center, and various structures associated with the cooperative housing movement, particularly the Art Deco style Amalgamated Dwellings, which hide a remarkable garden court.
