Greenpoint, Part 2

Toward Newtown Creek

With Francis Morrone

When the original New Year’s Eve tour of Greenpoint was cancelled because of freezing temperatures, our guide realized that Greenpoint demands two tours: one focused on the East River, the other on Newtown Creek. The Newtown Creek tour is an entirely new tour, and will include a journey into the heart of Polish Greenpoint (centered on the Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka, visited by Pope John Paul II and by Lech Walesa), Monsignor McGolrick Park, Newtown Creek (“the most awful stretch of water I have ever seen,” wrote Jan Morris), Polshek Partnership’s widely admired Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, the also widely admired Newtown Creek Nature Walk, and much more.
