Heroic Monuments of Riverside Drive: Joan of Arc to Grant’s Tomb
Led By Ed Strauss
Riverside Drive, from 93rd to 120th, is the setting for inspiring monuments honoring exemplars of historic and civic virtue, from the Middle Ages to the Cold War. In a landscaped setting mapped out by Olmsted and Robert Moses, the Drive’s sculptural protagonists honor generals and insurgents, monks and chaplains, presidents and candidates, composers and authors, cops and firefighters, entertainers and philanthropists . We’ll meet them all, with a backdrop of some of Manhattan’s most impressive residences.
There are steps and a paved pathway leading to the Joan of Arc statue. Sidewalks and crosswalks. I don't think there is wheelchair access to the interior of Grant's Tomb.
RSVP is required and capacity is limited. Meeting location, ending location, and directions will be provided via email before walk date.
