Long Island City – New York’s Other City!

With Bob Singleton

[In-person tour] Explore Long Island City, New York’s other city, with Bob Singleton, Executive Director of the Greater Astoria Historical Society. Although the name was officially used by a city that was around for less than three decades (1870 – 1898) it has started to come into its own recently, quickly earning the title ‘LIC : New York’s Other City.’ See how its rapid and ongoing residential growth is developing a tech center as well as its thriving arts community, with a high concentration of art galleries, art institutions, and studio space. All this (and more!) gives the area another name, “LIC : The Cradle of Creativity!” At the tour’s end there are many nearby restaurants and galleries – and your guide will have available names and addresses for places where participants can linger over conversation. Come see Long Island City, the New York City of tomorrow!

As a special treat, we’ll visit Krypton Neon, where many of the innovative and colorful neon signs that we see all over New York are expertly made by hand.

With rare exception, MAS tours take place rain or shine. For all tours, there are no refunds, cancellations, or exchanges unless we cancel a tour. Online registration closes one hour prior to the tour start time.
