MASterworks Explorations: Brooklyn Public Library, Central Library Master Plan: Phase 1

2022 Winner for Best Restoration

This fall, MAS is celebrating design excellence in New York City with our 2022 MASterworks Awards! We have curated a selection of in person explorations and online in-conversations with this year’s honored projects.

On Thursday, November 3rd, join MAS for an exploration of Brooklyn Public Library, Central Library which was awarded a 2022 Best Restoration MASterworks Award for Phase 1 of their Master Plan. Team members from the Brooklyn Public Library and Toshiko Mori Architect will provide attendees with a deep-dive into the design process behind this exciting restoration of this historic branch of the library system.

Phase 1 of the project is the single largest renovation and renovation in the branch’s 80-year history. In an exciting transformation, newly accessible spaces were introduced including a civic commons for community engagement, passport and city services, a ‘new and noteworthy’ book gallery with librarian-curated book titles, among other additions.
