Modern Wall Street

With John Arbuckle

This virtual tour will examine highlights of Modern architecture and public art in the Financial District created from the 1960s through the 1980s. It will include two International Style masterworks by Pritzker Prize winner Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), One Chase Plaza, now 28 Liberty Street, and the former Marine Midland Bank Building. In addition to other Modern buildings designed by SOM, James Ingo Freed, and Emery Roth & Sons, we will visit Postmodern works from former modernists Kevin Roche and Philip Johnson. The tour will also include sculpture of Noguchi, Nevelson, Dubuffet and di Suvero. Explore Modernism and more where New York began with John Arbuckle, President of DOCOMOMO US/New York Tri-State, a local chapter of an international organization dedicated to preserving Modern architecture.

Virtual tours are in Eastern Time and last 60 to 90 minutes. They are not recorded to be viewed later.
