Off to the Races at The Old Harlem River Speedway

Janes Walk

Led By Michele Farina

Unknown to many, the old Harlem River Speedway (now Harlem River Drive) was a tourist destination where people would go to watch horse races, boat races and later, auto races. Just over a short bridge near 155th St is a walking/biking path that presents for a scenic walk along the river passing many landmarks, where walkers are transported back to a time before it became a connecting thoroughfare in 1964.

Portions of the pedestrian-way are in proximity to traffic with limited access to facilities.
